Sonia has worked in a community mental health clinic for years through a Masshealth program called CBHI (Child Behavior Health Initiative), providing in-home therapy and therapeutic mentoring services to youth, adolescents, and families. She provided outreach services to the community delivering high quality, culturally competent, and appropriate mental health treatment to the Spanish families.  Her theoretical orientation is cognitive behavioral therapy with some solution focused therapy.

Sonia was inspired to pursue a degree in counseling due to  the lack of woman of color in the field therapists. As a child of Latinx immigrants, she believes therapist should be culturally competent. Sonia is fluent in both Spanish in English and often incorporates her Latinx background into her practice.
