Tanisha W, LMHC (she/her), is a Boston-born woman who harbored a desire to become a therapist since the age of nine, long before fully grasping the role. She pursued her passion at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, where she majored in psychology. It was during her time in the Nuance program within the multicultural dormitory that she witnessed the beauty of a world where individuals embraced diverse cultures, religions, ethnicities, genders, and sexualities. Inspired by this experience and a serendipitous encounter with a fellow woman-of-color psychology major, Tanisha co-founded the first multicultural sorority at the University of Massachusetts Amherst: Delta Xi Phi Multicultural Sorority Inc. This sisterhood, still thriving today, remains committed to fostering friendship, sisterhood, multicultural awareness, community service, and the advancement of women in higher education.
With over a decade of experience as a clinician, Tanisha finds fulfillment in witnessing individuals strive for personal growth. She affectionately refers to herself as her clients’ ‘holder of hope,’ guiding them until they can appreciate the beauty of their own narrative and fully embrace self-love. Tanisha employs Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) tailored to each individual, alongside evidence-based practices such as Mindfulness, Motivational Interviewing, and Solution-Focused therapy. She also incorporates storytelling into her approach, aiming to create a nurturing, strengths-based, client-centered environment regardless of the modality used.
Tanisha specializes in treating depression, adjustment disorders, anxiety, relationship issues, trauma, generational trauma, grief, ADHD, and other conditions, with a particular focus on addressing the unique challenges faced by BIPOC individuals. Outside of her professional endeavors, Tanisha resides in the Northshore area with her young adult son, who has Autism Spectrum Disorder (formerly Asperger’s). There, she finds solace in crocheting, savoring good food, cherishing good company, and dancing to music within the comfort of her home, all in pursuit of achieving a harmonious work-life balance.
